Fun Fact
It all began the day I rescued Butters. Butters was a nameless puppy found during a thunderstorm on a deer lease in Eden, Texas. He had been trapped in a snare for three days before being discovered by the landowner and taken to the A&M animal hospital. Upon arrival, the little puppy was placed into urgent care. He was suffering from severe starvation, dehydration, and significant blood loss due to a deep laceration on his front left leg from the snare trap. After twelve hours of intensive care, Butters's condition began to stabilize. However, during that time, he was incorrectly labeled as aggressive by a young, inexperienced veterinarian who was fired a month later for an unrelated issue. With no one to claim him and his aggressive label, Butters was scheduled to be put down.
At 1 o'clock in the morning, I woke up to a phone call from a friend who worked as a vet tech at the A&M animal hospital. My friend explained that Butters was scheduled to be euthanized that night, and if I claimed him, he would be saved. I quickly got dressed and drove to the hospital. There, I found a beautiful, sweet nameless little puppy who was hurt and scared. We connected instantly, and from that moment, we were bonded for life. The hospital recommended amputating Butters’s injured leg, but I was determined to save it. I signed the paperwork, named the puppy Butters, and claimed him as my own. Despite the hospital's insistence on amputation, I refused to let them proceed. After some heated discussions, the hospital had no choice but to release Butters into my care. I carried him to my car and took him home. Using silver nitrate bandages, hydrotherapy, and common first aid gauze, I treated and saved Butters’s leg. Remarkably, after just a month, Butters made a full recovery, leaving only a small scar on his leg as a reminder of his past.
Since then, Butters and I have embarked on many adventures. On our first big adventure, we traveled to Fort Worth, Texas, for a craft show. At the time, I was making and selling candles at craft shows. When we arrived in Fort Worth, we found that all the hotels were fully booked, so we camped out in the car. That night, a cold front blew in, and we woke up to freezing temperatures. While walking Butters for his morning routine, I noticed he was shivering, so we went back to the car, where I dressed him in a pair of my blue jeans and a long-sleeve T-shirt. Since the craft show was outdoors, we needed to be prepared for the weather. For the first few days, Butters and I sold candles in the cold, but soon enough the weather warmed up, and one afternoon Butters took off his shirt & pants. I picked up his clothes and put them in my dirty clothes bag. Soon the craft show was over and Butters and I packed up our things to head home.
When we returned home from the craft show, I threw all the dirty cloths in the washer. After washing and drying them, I started to put everything back in my dresser drawers. As I turned around to grab more clothes to put up, I was shocked to see Butters with the jeans in his mouth. When I tried to take them from him, he ran and hid under the dining table. After a brief conversation with Butters, I realized he just wanted to wear the pants again. That’s when I had the idea to get him a pair of his own blue jeans that would fit him better. I cut a hole for his tail and rolled up the legs of a pair of kids blue jeans. They were a perfect fit, and Butters loved them. Ever since then, he's been wearing blue jeans.
During the summer, when it gets too hot, he takes off his pants, but whenever he wants to put them back on, he brings them to me for help. One day, while sitting in my kitchen, Butters brought me his blue jeans, wanting to put them on. After helping him get dressed, I thought to myself that he would make a great children’s cartoon show character. Although I didn’t know how to create an animated show, I did know how to draw and write. So, I decided to create a children’s book series featuring Butters as the main character. That’s folks is how Butters became the Blue Jean Dog.
